CLIENT OF THE QUARTER
Oscar and Mary Cruz, Third Quarter of 2008
The morning Des Peres program is anchored by Oscar and Mary Cruz. They are well known members in the community for their attitude, energy and personality. Before class each morning, Mary works the group and can be located instantly thanks to her laugh and southern accent. Oscar heads off with Don for a little extra warm up run. Once class begins, you can count on both to train hard, offer help to new clients and add a bit of humor when the intensity peaks. They lead by example as clients, parents, educators and in the medical community. Clearly, that would be enough to warrant recognition, but it their generosity takes things one step further. During last year's effort to support Lieutenant's Felker and Collins, they collected 200 lbs. of supplies from friends and coworkers. They contribute ideas about how to improve the program and offered to help someone who could not participate in the program for financial reasons. Their dedication and participation are greatly appreciated. In their own words:
Mary: I was one of those people working out on the "other side of the window" at the Lodge! Pounding out hours on the treadmill and getting extremely bored. I would watch the boot camp class and wonder if I could do it or not! Finally, 4 years ago, I got the nerve to try it "for just one session". I haven't missed a session since! I still love it and feel like it is always a challenge. I have always been active and enjoyed physical fitness but have never really looked forward to working out like I do in boot camp. Now, I have my "better" half with me and know it is something positive and constructive we can do together - as we "age"!! It's also important to us that Keath and his trainers actually "walk the walk" and I know I'm getting the absolute optimal workout and never feel like I'm wasting my time!
